Where to go on Lake Garda at Christmas?
Lake Garda: an attraction even in winter
It is not only the summer period that boasts attractions and consequently an increase in tourism on Lake Garda, also during winter the villages along the shore are filled with activities and, with the arrival of Christmas, the magic is truly unique.
Christmas markets can be found in several municipalities around the lake and feature typical wooden houses set up with stalls full of the typical products from the lake area, handcraft creations, refreshments with hot drinks, exhibitions and nativity scenes. The most famous markets to visit for Christmas shopping are in Sirmione, in the historic center of Manerba del Garda, in Padenghe and in Desenzano, which every year engages in various activities dedicated to young people.
The Christmas markets tradition
Christmas is a festivity enjoyed by adults and especially by children. Christmas markets are a custom born in Northern Europe and then embraced by different Countries: the harmony that these events convey with typical music, traditional scents and foods, lights and colors fill not only the streets of the villages of Lake Garda but also the heart.
It seems that, at first, Christmas markets were exclusively attended by the upper middle class but over time the interest has moved towards all social classes and their success has increasingly increased the tourist trade in places that have always devoted much interest to these activities.
Although Christmas markets normally feature Christmas items for decorations and gifts, over time these events have been enriched with typical food products and more, to make pleasant the stay and stroll of tourists and residents.
Living at Lake Garda or experiencing its beauties in any season of the year will be a truly unique experience.
